Who we are
FlightLimits is an independent, pilot-built suite of flight-operations utilities: FlightLog (duty & flight-time limit tracking), HoldoverLive (de-icing holdover times, including NOTAM Live) and BravoZulu: ICAO English — an iOS app containing two practice trainers, Aviation English (exam practice) and RadioCoach (ATC radiotelephony practice). Contact details are at the bottom of this page.
iOS APPHoldoverLive & NOTAM Live
Data collected: none. The app has no accounts, no login, no analytics, no advertising and no tracking. We do not collect names, e-mail addresses, contacts, device identifiers or usage data.
- Calculations and timers run entirely on your device. Holdover inputs, timers and settings are stored locally and never transmitted.
- Location (optional). If you use “nearest aerodrome”, the app asks for a one-time location fix solely to suggest the closest ICAO code. The coordinates are used on the device, are not stored and are never sent to us or to third parties. The feature is entirely optional.
- Network requests. When you fetch METAR, SNOWTAM or NOTAM data, the app contacts public aviation data
services (e.g.
aviationweather.gov,notams.aim.faa.gov) directly from your device. Those requests contain the aerodrome code you asked for and standard technical information any web request carries (such as your IP address, as seen by that service). We operate no server in between and receive nothing. - Notifications. Holdover alerts are scheduled locally on your device. No push servers are involved.
WEB APPFlightLog
- Your roster stays in your browser. Rosters, duty records, calculations and settings are stored in your browser’s local storage on your device. They are not uploaded to us and we cannot see them.
- Access e-mail. Pilot access to the web app is gated by an e-mail-based sign-in. The address is used only to grant access; the sign-in itself is delivered by our access provider (Cloudflare) acting as a processor. It is not used for marketing, is not shared with anyone else and is not linked to your roster data.
- Schedule & flight-time lookups (optional). Features that fetch published schedule times or flight actuals send only the flight number / aerodrome code being queried through our relay to an aviation data provider. No personal data and no roster content is attached; like any web request, the relay technically sees your IP address while serving it — we do not log or use it.
- Community code dictionary (optional). If you choose to share a duty-code format, only an anonymised summary — which you review on screen first — is transmitted. Names and identifiers are stripped before anything is sent, and the preview cannot be edited into something else.
- No analytics, no ads, no tracking — same policy as every FlightLimits app.
iOS APPBravoZulu: ICAO English
BravoZulu contains two practice trainers: Aviation English (aviation-English exam practice) and RadioCoach (ATC radiotelephony practice). Both are speaking practice, so the app records your voice while you answer. There are no accounts and no login.
- Microphone. The app asks for microphone access the first time you speak an answer. It records only while you are answering an exercise — never in the background. iOS shows the recording indicator throughout, and you can withdraw the permission at any time in Settings.
- What leaves your device, and where it goes. To transcribe your speech and to score it, your audio and/or the resulting transcript are sent over the internet to OpenAI (Whisper for speech-to-text, GPT models for evaluation), through a relay we operate. Unlike our other apps this is not an optional extra — it is how scoring works. The AI connection is provided for you; you do not enter an API key. OpenAI is an independent third party that processes this data under its own terms and privacy policy (per OpenAI, API data is not used to train its models by default); we pass the request to OpenAI but do not control, and are not responsible for, OpenAI’s processing of it.
- Recordings are not kept. Your audio is transmitted for transcription and scoring only. We do not store recordings, we do not build voice profiles, and nothing you say is linked to your identity — the request carries no name, e-mail, account or device identifier.
- What stays on the device. The listening paper runs entirely offline: the questions are spoken by the iOS voice and answers are matched on the device, with no network request at all. Your scores, progress, streaks and settings are stored only on your device.
- Subscriptions. Purchases are handled entirely by Apple. We never see your card, billing address or Apple Account details; we only learn from the device whether an active subscription exists.
- No analytics, no advertising, no tracking.
Practice scores are AI estimates for study only. They are not an official language-proficiency assessment and do not correspond to any official test result.
What we never do
- No selling, renting or sharing of personal data — there is essentially none to share.
- No third-party analytics or advertising SDKs in any app.
- No profiling, no cross-app tracking, no marketing e-mails.
Data retention & deletion
Because your data lives on your device, you are in control: deleting the app (or clearing the browser’s site data for the web app) permanently removes everything. There is nothing held on our side to delete. Voice recordings made in BravoZulu are not retained by us at any point — they are transmitted for transcription and scoring and are not written to storage on our side.
Children
FlightLimits apps are professional aviation tools and are not directed at children.
Changes to this policy
If the apps ever change in a way that affects privacy, this page will be updated first and the “last updated” date revised. Material changes will be called out in the app release notes.
